Diving among the issues that currently raise more interest for professionals in juvenile justice, I would highlight the commitment of the Council of United Nations Human Rights (CH) and the reality of children in conflict with the law in the world. A commitment that is reflected in the Annual Meeting on Children Rights, which this year will focus on the relationship between children and the administration of justice. States, international organizations, experts, N Gos, etc.. so bring your vision a reality as complex and required constant analysis as the treatment and status of children in conflict with the law.
While in most advanced countries seems camiknickers under a wave of neo congregationalism and retributive, especially influenced by social pressure, we can not forget those others, much of the international community, which have yet to take firm steps to achieve juvenile justice models in line with international standards under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Even today, so will the HRC Annual Meeting, we have to keep talking about treatment and inhuman and degrading treatment of children, deprivation of liberty for life, death penalty, detention conditions unimaginable to our eyes , lack of legal assistance to minors in court proceedings, and especially, lack of educational activities linked to the lack of human and material resources.
Other issues that remain in the spotlight are the necessary diversification of measures on the promotion of alternatives to detention, and ultimately the development of a juvenile justice system friendly to children and young people (Child-Friendly Justice) along the line defined by the Council of Europe and the International Juvenile Justice Observatory.
Without doubt the HRC meeting will derive conclusions that will shape the future work of all those involved and dedicated to the effective reintegration of children and youth in conflict with the law, and especially those who, soon, bet to devote his life to believe in the opportunity that these children and young people deserve.
